We want your music, and your vids!
If you're creating self-injury awareness videos for your Blog or for YouTube and Google Video, then please use the music tracks kindly donated by LifeSIGNS members. If you use MP3s and tracks from your CDs, we won't be able to feature your videos, as music is copyrighted and we can't promote the breaking of copyright. So use the tracks provided freely, and we'll do our best to feature and promote your video! 'Free' MusicThese tracks have been kindly provided for your use in making SI Awareness videos and slideshows; the musicians retain copyright, and the right to be known as the creators, but you have permission to mash these tracks up and use them in your own work. It might be nice to give credit to the talented artist if you do use their track! Would you like to donate an MP3 for this page? Email Wedge@lifesigns.org.uk or download a poster / flyer [PDF].
To save a file, 'right click' on its title and select 'Save Target As...' and then save the file to your desktop of documents folder. Send In Your VideosYou can send in your videos, podcasts and slideshows and we'll show them here on this page, and maybe on our front page! If you have uploaded your video to YouTube or Google Video, you can simply email the address to Wedge@lifesigns.org.uk (an address looks something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GMen9ywB3o or this: http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-4174472472548544515 ) Upload nowOr, you can upload your video to LifeSIGNS for review. Make sure your movie has one of the following file extensions: .mov .avi .mpeg .mpg .mp3 .mp4 .3gp .fla .wmv Files should not exceed 30MB! I must repeat, we cannot use videos that use copyrighted music, you should not send us videos that make use of chart music; please use the 'free' music we provide on this page. How to make videosSome people record videos using their webcams, other people use their mobile phone video camera, or a more professional home-video camera. Other people make slideshows using words and images and music, and such shows can be made with a variety of software packages. Ask your friends how they do it, or discuss this idea on the LifeSIGNS Message Board now.

RulesMake sure that you have permission to use all the imagery and sounds in your video. Make sure you don't quote any phrases from websites unless you give the website's address or have full permission. Don't put anythng triggering in your video, we won't show it. Don't discuss any methods of how a person could hurt themselves - we don't wish to promote methodologies, we wish to raise awarness about the issues surrounding self-injury. Be original, most people create videos to 'introduce' the subject of self-injury, so why not go beyond this and delve deeper into the causes of self-injurious behaviour? Be aware that once you publish stuff on the Internet it can be almost impossible to take it down. Sometimes, things become really popular, so be aware that your video might be seen online forever. Don't say anthing that might upset your friends an family, once you've recorded it on a video, it's around forever even if you "didn't really mean it". Instead of saying "Self-injurers" try to say "people who self-injure". Get a friend to check all your spelling; you'll kick yourself if you get stuff wrong. Don't show any scars.
