Janet joined the Management Committee as a Director in September 2006.

She has recent experience working in the political and policy making fields, having worked for a Member of Parliament and a brief spell working for the Department of Education and Skills (DfES) within the Civil Service. She enjoys working with young people, having worked on specific policies within the DfES and in her role as assistant teacher in a summer literacy school. She is currently in her final year at the University of Sheffield studying for a history and politics degree.

Janet has personal experience of self injury, but with the help of healthcare professionals, teachers, family, friends and a succession of therapy techniques, is now SI free. From her experiences, her main interests and concerns are in raising awareness and increasing support for SI in black and ethnic minority groups (BMEs) in particular.

She is passionate about ensuring equality and diversity within organisations and institutions and was involved in such a scheme in the Civil Service. Consequently, her passion is to ensure that all groups, regardless of race, age, gender, able-bodiness and sexuality are all give the opportunity to access the most suitable and effective SI services available.
